Why is self love so important?

The stigma on actively managing mental health has diminished and we are realising that we can be more successful, more productive and nice people to be around if we practise self love as a routine part of our lives.

My personal self love involves weekly yoga lessons, having a book on the go, long hot showers and more recently I’ve discovered how much I enjoy tending to my veggie garden.

It’s also really important for men to have self love and care practices too, so encourage the men in your lives to take time out to nurture themselves.

There are many things you can do to support yourself, both physically and emotionally and there are some natural remedies that can help as well.

Homeopathic Remedies

There are several homeopathic remedies that can help us feel more emotionally supported and cope with life.

Arsenicum for when there is emotional stress, grief, homesickness, guilt and mental strain with sighing. Also indicated for restless anxiety, apprehension and dread in high achievers who become overly fussy and fastidious.

Ignatia for when you feel extremely critical, impatient and quick to flare up, which is often associated with overwork. Also for grief, sadness and feeling homesick.

Nux Vomica for when you are fed up, worn down and disinterested in the family and are stressed from overwork. Irritability and impatience may be present.

Gelsemium is great for anticipatory anxiety; when people anticipate even simple things with fear and dread.

Sepia is a great remedy if you feel fed up, dragged down, want to be left alone and sometimes feel like running away from it all. It will help bring back the joy.

Lycopodium suits tense, irritable intellectual people; lacking confidence they become anxious before any ordeal.

The Woman Mist would also be useful as it allows a woman to discover and feel good about herself, her own body and beauty.

Other Ideas

Bergamot essential oil is a great one to embody self-love and self-worth. It can help us process and release the fear of not being good enough and opens us to love and self-acceptance. Bergamot teaches acceptance of your uniqueness, self approval, joy, and resulting self-confidence.

I find movement really important for self care so any type of exercise and walking in nature can be helpful. Gentle mindful movement like yoga, tai chi, qi gong and even meditation can all help us become more self aware and tune in to ourselves.

Find what works for you and makes you feel like you are connecting in with yourself and your own unique essence. You might like to take baths, paint or draw, read books or socialise with friends to fill your cup.

Don’t be hesitant to seek help from a therapist or counsellor if you struggle to love yourself and find value in self care. Hypnotherapy or EFT can be useful here.
