Natural Remedies for Healthy Teeth

Natural Remedies for Healthy Teeth

We often take our teeth for granted – until something goes wrong! Teeth problems can be painful and nerve-wracking (nobody likes going to the dentist!)

But there are many preventative and natural remedies for keeping our teeth healthy and to address any discomfort and problems.

Homeopathy

BelladonnaApisSepia or Chamomila are all remedies that can be used for acute tooth pain, depending on the presentation.

Arnica can be useful for injuries or accidents to teeth and for repair in healing from dental procedures.

Anticipatory Anxiety is a great complex blend if you are nervous or phobic about dentist visits and procedures.

Tissue Salts

Silica is great for strong teeth, hair and nails and can be used for sensitive teeth.

Calc Phos may be effective to strengthen teeth in early signs of decay and for brittle and unhealthy enamel.

Kali Phos may be useful for gums that bleed easily.

Nat Mur can be used for neuralgia of teeth (intense stabbing nerve pain).

Mag Phos can be used if your teeth are sensitive to cold.

Kidz Minerals by Martin and Pleasance make a Strong Bones and Teeth blend which is great for the kids with a yummy natural strawberry flavour. It can help with slow developing teeth and toothache.

Flower Essences

Whoopsies is my flower essence blend that can assist with pain, shock, trauma and accidents relating to teeth. It would also be useful for dentist visits and procedures.

Other Remedies

It goes without saying that prevention is better than cure! Good dental hygiene with attention to brushing and flossing daily can help avoid cavities and gum disease. But there are also some other natural remedies that you may not realise can impact on teeth health.

Diet. We all know to avoid sugar for good dental health but you can also improve teeth health with specific nutrients.

Food high in minerals can help with teeth remineralisation. Choose from things like:

  • Organic bone broth
  • Eggs
  • Grass fed meats and poultry
  • Dark leafy greens – broccoli, kale, spinach
  • Mushrooms
  • Cheese (especially soft cheeses)
  • Himalayan salt

Foods high in fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K2) are also good for dental health. Choose from foods like:

  • Vitamin A: animal products, carrots, pumpkin, green leafy vegetables
  • Vitamin D: sun exposure, oily fish, cod liver oil, fish oil
  • Vitamin E: fruits and vegetables, nuts (almonds and hazelnuts), seeds (sunflower)
  • Vitamin K2: cheese, egg yolk, butter, ghee, chicken liver, chicken breast, ground beef

Oil Pulling. This is an ancient ayurvedic practice that we can use to keep our teeth and gums healthy. It involves swishing and ‘pulling’ oil around the mouth and teeth for 20 minutes and then spitting out. Coconut oil is recommended but you can also use sesame.

Homemade Toothpaste. Many people like to avoid fluoride, sls, triclosan etc and go with a natural toothpaste. It’s surprisingly easy and budget friendly to make your own toothpaste!

Check out this recipe using just bicarb soda, bentonite clay, coconut oil, stevia and essential oils.

I hope these tips for healthy teeth are useful to you! You can always get in touch if you are not sure which remedy is right for your presentation and I will happily assist you to choose.
